DATELINE MONDAY 3RD OCTOBER 2022


Good morning, happy Monday, the first in October, not long till Halloween ☹ and yes, it is getting chilly, having said that the weekend of weather we had was wonderful, dry, sunny and warm, the heating is not on yet.


HELP it seems like the UK is falling to bits, post-strike, train strike, interest rates hike, energy price spike, pound sterling bouncing all over the graph paper not knowing where to settle at the whims of currency traders and political elite. Whilst I am sure Boris is still smarting from being kicked out of the top job he must be a little relieved, although it is quite possible if he and Rishi were still in charge this turmoil in the financial markets might not be happening.

The BBC are replaying a clip from the Conservative Leadership hustings of Rishi Sunak, the ex-Chancellor of the Exchequer in case you have forgotten who he is, saying that if Liz Truss carries out the tax cutting plans, she has outlined the markets will be in a mess. I am certain, as my dear late Dad z”l would say that “eggs is eggs “ Rishi will be shouting at the newscasters and journos on TV screen “I told you so, I told you this would happen if Liz Truss got in” Meanwhile the Labour Party are having a whale of a time, feeling very smug indeed. Somebody ought to remind Sir Keir Rodney Starmer, Angela Rayner and Rachel Reeves that a week in politics is a long time and two years in politics is a lifetime, a lot can happen before the public go to a General Election.


OMG Category four Hurricane Ian made land fall in Florida on Friday, I am very pleased to tell you at Clem, her family and the team at C Florida Hospitality the DMC we have represented since 1997 are all safe and well thank G-d. I have said it before, and I will say it again we are lucky where we live here in the UK.

The Manchester football derby was as ever exciting and unpredictable, it produced a thrilling match which ended with a 6-3 win for City and another hat trick for Erling Haaland, so far he has scored 17 goals. The 22-year-old has become the first player in Premier League history to score hat-tricks in three successive home games – after trebles against Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace.


Finally on Tuesday evening Jewish people around the World will be marking Kol Nidre, all day Wednesday, it is the fast of Yom Kippur a 25 hour fast from Tuesday evening at 6PM till Wednesday evening at 7PM, no eating, no drinking, no smoking, no working, indeed not anything except asking for forgiveness from our yearlong sinning escapades so may I take this opportunity to ask forgiveness from anyone I have wronged (please form an orderly queue) and may I wish you, if this applies to you ”well over The Fast” and a successful easy fast. I consider myself fortunate in the fact that I have no problem whatsoever in fasting.

MM and Company news update

Germany

Eva and the team at Cornerstone Meetings DMC part of Germanyinsight DMC is once again this year running events during Oktoberfest in Munich. The Oktoberfest is held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is a 17 day folk festival running from the first Sunday in October, with more than six million international and national visitors attending the event. Locally, it is called d’Wiesn, after the colloquial name for the fairgrounds, Theresienwiese. The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since the year 1810. Other cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations that are modelled after the original Munich event. During the event, large quantities of Oktoberfest Beer are consumed. Visitors also enjoy numerous attractions, such as amusement rides, side stalls, and games. There is also a wide variety of traditional foods available.


IMEX and IBTM

One of my favourite things I say about MM and Company’s amazing DMCs that we represent is:-

MM and Company represent, recommend and successfully work with many DMCs throughout the world that do the same job in many different ways and that is true when it comes to trade shows and exhibitions, some DMCs attend most of them, some attend none of them. Some DMCs fervently believe in them, some think they simply do not deliver.
